This is my very first Comic book Publication, printed way back in '94. Looks like Milehigh has some coppies if anyone is interested in making a purchase. I have to warn you though, it's horrible.

Domino Lady: Mystery of Madam X

Today is mom's birthday and the card was a hit.

We spent the day at the Bronx Zoo and after the we watch the Mets Trounce the Blue Jays (She's the Baseball fan!) we'll have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory tonight to help celebrate the momentous occasion that is her Birthday.

Thanks to everyone that stopped in, and a special thanks to those that commented on the drawing that I did for the card, your support is always deeply appreciated.

This character is Domino Lady, a 50's Noir Hollywood socialite with a flavor for sniffing out the criminal element. Domino Lady is a Pulp project that is being compiled by the astute & talented comics veteran Ron Fortier, whom you can find out more about at his site www.Airship27.com.

Ron contacted me a few months ago after seeing the Champion & Victory drawing that I had done earlier this year and said that he would like to do a little pin-up for his pulp publication. It's not everyday that an industry professional sends me a personal message about my work so of course I was flattered, honored and very intimidated all at the same time and I said that would love to do something for him.

Ron has been great to me and just as supportive of my endeavors in illustration as the bunch of you that have come here from time to time to say hi have been and I really appreciate the attention that he has given me.

There is another Domino Lady Drawing in the works at this time, I will be taking this one to ink I just hope that I remember how to use my pens.

As usual, you can let me know what you think and don't forget to rate the image if you like it.
Thanks
EJ

Can Have it & Eat it Too

This is an image that I did for a Birthday card for me Mum. It's a characterization of me eating all of her Birthday cake, save for a single sliver. I colored right over the pencils which is something that creates an interesting debate every now and again, but I think that it came out pretty OK not to bad.

Here is the Pencil illustration for the card.
A little history for the reasoning behind this: I have been making cards of various themes for my mother since I was 15, mostly birthday's & Mother's Day though I did sneak a couple of other festive occasions in there as well over the years.

Now that I look back on the beginnings of these cards, I think that they started out as a desperate plea to let Mom know that I didn't forget her on her special day as they were often drawn the same day as the Holiday or Birthday event. It was also very cost effective since all I needed was a folded piece of paper and a pencil and often times I had spent all of my money on Comics and couldn't get her a gift. She was often thrilled at receiving them, not just because it was from her only son but because it was something from the heart, not store bought, but my real words & my real feelings about how much she means to me and how I will always cherish the gifts that she has given me.

What started out as a makeshift apology became an authentic sentiment and tradition between us.
Love Ya Mom!

So let me know what you think.

The Last Paladin

The Last Paladin is a character created by Ian Ascher & Mahmud Asrar. This character has been featured in Digital Webbing Presents publications.

Ian and I have been corresponding off and on for years but due to my ever changing mood, flaky nature, grouped with ever changing life circumstances, we never connected creatively.
A few months ago, Ian contacted me just to say hi I think,(I don't know where my brain is at the moment so I can't remember how we got together, maybe he was was just checking up)and the option to draw the Last Paladin came up.
It was months before I could get up the gusto to get something on paper but I think that it came out pretty OK not too bad. Let me know what you think!

Now I'm Back! (2231 Unique Page Views)

I have to admit that I don't really know what that means, It seems that the drawing bug is seasonal for me because now I'm back in the swing of things drawing on a regular basis. So if this is any indication of how things have come along in the past, I should hit a dry spell again around October. Depends on my very fragile mood I guess.

I have to credit the catalog of my drawings of the last year, here, with helping me to acquire the itch again. All those of you who have posted your thoughts on my work and showed support for me have inspired me a great deal to move out of my funk and get back into the game.

This bug means that I have been spending a lot of time over at the DW boards (You'll Find a link to the right under "Great Message Boards" for them). If you are a fan of comic art, there is a great combination of Amateur and Professional talent alike that have great offerings of support & critique as well as stunning art. Check it out.

The Drawings that I have posted there thus far include these two new renderings of Doc Samson. I've always liked the character but never really knew much about him. The first is Samson sitting in his chair possibly analyzing a patient off the page. I find the image of the Brutish Body to be an interesting contrast to the analytical brain within. I was really happy with the outcome of this drawing but I need to get into creating some atmosphere. There have been some alterations to this drawing since this scan.

The second drawing was more Samson but I wanted to create an encounter with Bruce in this one. There are a lot of elements that don't really fit in this image but I have to say as I have about many other drawings that I have done, I really like it. Again this is something that I think should have a great big atmospheric scene to it, like the bodies of various marvel heroes strewn about the landscape, but I'm feeling the complacency to let it go.

At the time of this post, there have been 2231 unique visitors to this site. If you know anything about running a web site you might know that this number is a little deceiving considering that not all of the visitors are human. But, Human or not there is a great satisfaction to knowing that there are so many views in just the month of May alone.

I also wanted to mention the inclusion of the "EJ's Favorites Gallery" to the right ot the weblog. Some of the images there are not featured entries on this blog. I thought that it would make for a nice touch to this page making more variety available than just what's entered here.

Thanks for lookin'
